NAHUNTA — Kenneth Michael Lee, 71, of Nahunta, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at his home after an extended illness. Born in Lake City, Fla., his parents were the late Willard and Jessie Mae Lee. Lee retired as captain of the Jacksonville Fire Dept., with 33 years of service, retired Master Sgt. in the Air Force Guard, former Chief of the Nahunta Volunteer Fire Dept., served as Brantley Co. Fire Coordinator, and a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Throughout his very extended illness, his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ never wavered. Lee fully trusted in the Lord until the very end. He was loved by many for his kind and gentle spirit. Lee had many nicknames — Kenny, Sweetheart, Big Bird, Mr. Safety and Captain, but most of all Paw-Paw. He loved playing jokes on everyone and one of his favorites was, “how far do you think you’d be if I hadn’t of called you back?” While Lee wasn’t known as an animal lover, he was frequently seen surrounded by and caring for dogs, cats and horses. He loved the wonderful friendships he made through the horse world and the fact that horses made his wife, Button, very happy. Lee was up for anything that made her happy! He loved to travel … the more the better. In some way his illness opened up the doors to travel. The Lees traveled as much as they could for several years checking things off his “bucket list” as they went. He always joked he kept a spare toothbrush and change of underwear in the glove box, he was always ready to go! Through those travels, the Lees met some wonderful lifelong friends from all over the world. If you knew Lee, you know he didn’t meet a stranger. Whatever Lee did he did big, but he was humble at the same time. One this is for sure, he touched many lives. Lee’s biggest fans include his spoiled wife, Button Lee; three children Michael (Nikki) Lee of Jacksonville Fla., Mandi (Scott) Jones of Nahunta, and B.J. (Ashley) Eskew of Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Konner (Joe) Jones, Vaughn Lee, Ethan (Bob) Jones, Rosalind (Ozzie) Lee, Maci Jay (Buttercup) Jones, Benson Eskew, and Kynnlee Eskew; a sister, Shirley (Jack) Crews of Taylor, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, his brotherhood of Fireman, and many friends. Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions on public gatherings Kens “Celebration of Life” will be postponed until we can all gather together to pay a proper tribute to the life and legacy of the man we all loved.
