FOLKSTON — Isabelle Ardeth Crews Brooks, 88 of Folkston, went to be in the presence of the King of Kings on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. Mrs. Brooks was born March 7, 1932 in Folkston to the late Bert and Isabella (Izzie) Carter Crews. M r s . Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, Devoy F. Brooks; her parents; an infant brother, Joseph E. Crews; four brothers and sisters-in-law, L.B. (Opal) Crews, Columbus (Martha) Crews, Paul (Pauline) Crews, and Theodore (Nancy) Crews; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Wesley) Murray; a sister, Amy Tomlinson; an infant grandson, Bert C. Lyons; nieces, Judy Murray Cribb and Betty Jean Murray Daniels; and a nephew, Fred Tomlinson. Mrs. Brooks is survived by two sons, Clifford (Darlene) Thrift of St. Marys and Richard (Cheryl) Barnard of Kingsland; two daughters, Diane (Dale) Lyons of Nahunta and Betty (Ray) Strickland of St Marys; three stepsons, James (Traci) Barnard St. Marys, Charles (Sherry) Barnard of Atkinson, and Glenn Barnard of Folkston; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Neomia (Roger) Sundy of Stone Mountain; and many nieces and nephews and numerous extended family members. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the 1949 graduating class of Folkston High School where only 11 grades were needed for graduation. The following year the 12th grade was added. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, St. Marys, and was a Charter member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, and The Lawton- Gordon-Evans Brigade in Waynesville. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet. She was of the Baptist faith. There was a graveside service held Friday April 24 at New Hope Cemetery in Hickox. Rev. Terry Barnard officiated. Pallbearers were her grandsons, David Strickland, Casey Strickland; great-grandsons, Austin Wainright, Gavin Wainright, Logan Carper, and grandsons-in-law, Jason Wainright, Bo Lloyd, Derek Johnson.
