WAYCROSS — Ware County Sheriff’s Department’s family was once again left in grief mode with the loss of their beloved and respected Assistant Jail Shift Supervisor Douglas Clifton Flener following a tragic accident on U.S. 1 in Ware County.
Flener, 38, died when his SUV collided with a tractor-trailer truck just before 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 14 on the two-lane portion of the business spur of the roadway, said Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Chad Woods of the Waycross Post.
Flener, whose birthday was Wednesday, was traveling south toward Waycross in a 2000, green Toyota 4-runner. Flener’s vehicle traveled into the northbound lane where it collided with the Dollar General delivery truck, Woods said. He did not have the name of the driver of the truck.
Woods said the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
He said the roadway was blocked for more than two hours because of the crash.
“This man had an excellent Christian testimony,” said Ware Sheriff Carl James. “He was a very respectful man, a good officer, a hard-working, excellent employee who was always there when he was called on. He had just been recently promoted to corporal in early June.”
