HOBOKEN — Edgar Richard Bennett, Sr., 70, of Hoboken, passed away Wednesday night, July 22, 2020, at Clinch Memorial Hospital in Homerville following an extended illness. Born in Eastman, Bennett’s parents were Jessie Franklin Bennett and Effie Lee Brack Bennett. He is also preceded in death by six siblings, Joyce Sapp, James Bennett, Benjamin Bennett, Billy Allen, Leroy Bennett, and Bud Bennett. Bennett was self-employed and was a cultured marble worker. He enjoyed doing wood crafts, yard work, gardening, helping others, and singing, Bennett loved his family and grandchildren. He was also a big jokester. Bennett is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeannette Bennett of Hoboken; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Tripp (Dawn) of Eastman, and Edgar Richard Bennett, Jr. (Melissa) of Hilliard, Fla.; a daughter, Valarie Ann Mackie (Fiance’ Tyrell Stevens); 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Heath and Jane Selph, both of Eastman.; three sisters-in-law, Patsy Witherspoon (Mike), Jacquelyn Evans (Arnold), and Margaret Hall (Melvin); two brothers-in-law, Presley Gill (Cindy), and Kenneth Gill (Rose); also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends. A funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2020, at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Wade Mask and Pastor Walter Powers officiating. Pallbearers were Richard Bennett, Doug Meyer, Jessie Bennett, Pastor Wade Mask, Tyrell Stevens, and Casey Tripp. Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
